Supporting Birmingham Children’s Hospital

Parents and visitors to the Birmingham Children's Hospital renal ward can now enjoy a comfortable overnight stay with patients, after staff at Repose Furniture donated its flagship Stargazer chair, a product that is already a regular fixture at hospitals across the UK.

This came after staff at Repose took part in an annual charity event to raise vital funds for Birmingham Children's Hospital. Together the team raised over £270, and when they learned more about the tremendous work that staff at the Children's Hospital undertake every day the company decided it wanted to contribute more.

Lisa Wardley, Managing Director at Repose, explained why the team wanted to donate the Stargazer Chair: "We regularly hold fundraising days in support of Birmingham Children's Hospital, but this time we wanted to do something different. Being in hospital at any time is difficult, but to have a poorly child is a really worrying time for both the child and their family. We hope that the Stargazer Chair, which transforms from a chair to a bed, will provide comfort to not only patients on the renal ward, but also to their families who will be able to stay by their bedside.”

The Stargazer Chair has been specially designed and manufactured by Repose for use within a healthcare environment. Transitioning easily from a chair to a bed, it provides a comfortable resting place for both patient and visitors in a hospital setting. The specialist chair, which features anti MRSA vinyl upholstery, also comes in a range of vivid colours, making it a bright addition to the renal ward.

Jane Cotterill, Renal Services Manager at Birmingham Children's Hospital said: "On behalf of the Renal Unit at Birmingham Children's Hospital I would like to say a huge thank you to Repose for the donation of the Stargazer chair. The chair will be used by the patients to sit in during the day but also by parents to sleep in at night. The chair will make a huge difference to the families we care for, providing them with a comfortable environment which is so important when they are in hospital for a prolonged period of time.”

Repose continually supports a number of local and national charities, and regularly holds fundraising events for staff. Last year the company donated a number of its Stargazer chairs to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children in Northern Ireland. The company also recently donated one of its specialist home care chairs to raise much needed funds for the Birmingham and West Midlands Eye Center and BUDS, for better understanding of dementia in Sandwell.
