Multi C-air Healthcare Chair
This chair can easily be adapted for one or multiple users – a very versatile healthcare chair with excellent pressure management features.
The success of the Multi C-air Healthcare Chair lies in its complete adaptability. This rise recliner puts the healthcare team, in the home or the ward, in ultimate control, providing a full range of options to tailor the chair precisely for each, individual’s comfort and care.
With a choice of Dual or Single Tilt in Space motors the Multi C-air Healthcare Chair is suitable for clients with changing and deteriorating neurological conditions and those who require assisted movement to reduce the problems of skin breakdown. It also comes with a choice of nine seat cushions and six back cushion styles all removable, interchangeable, replaceable and each designed with different postural and pressure management qualities. With the ability to remove and interchange seat and back cushion designs the chair can be easily adapted over time for changing conditions or new users, giving greater longevity of usage.
There is optional seat height and depth adjustment.
The Multi C-air Multi C-air Healthcare Chair can be used in any health environment or for home care and is designed to blend into the décor.
The Tilt in Space (TIS) mechanisms make this chair ideal for clients with changing and deteriorating neurological conditions and those who require assisted movement to reduce the problems of skin breakdown. They allow for multi positioning of the legs to reduce oedema and fluid retention, leading to increased comfort. They can also be useful to those with low blood pressure to alter their position to reduce the impact of changes in pressure e.g. postural hypertension.
The Multi C-air Multi C-air Healthcare Chair is ideal for clients who require pressure and postural management whilst wanting to be supported to stand independently, such as:
The Multi C-air Multi C-air Healthcare Chair can also be used as part of a 24-hour postural care programme and its features also ensure that a user can be repositioned to allow for optional occupational performance, thus allowing an individual to engage in activities they want to do.
The chair can be used with either a mobile or overhead hoist to support safe moving and handling techniques for carers.

The Multi C-air comes with a range of key features to aid pressure management, postural control and comfort. The key features listed below are standard, you can purchase additional features and these are detailed in the Optional Accessories Section.
The Multi C-air is available with either a Dual Tilt in Space (DTIS) or a Single Tilt in Space (STIS) mechanism. The Tilt in Space (TIS) movement allows the seat to back angle to remain the same whilst the whole seating system is tilted backwards which prevents shearing and friction.
The Dual Tilt in Space mechanism has more positional movement options than the STIS one as it also has independent backrest recline and independent leg rest movement. This enables a greater range of positions to aid pressure management, postural control and comfort.
There is also the option of VAL Technology on both these mechanisms, but only on the medium and large sized chairs.
For further details on these mechanisms, with video clips, visit the Mechanism Section.
Pressure Management Back Cushions
There is a choice of six interchangeable and adjustable pressure management back cushions that enable the chair to be adapted to a single user’s changing needs or to adapt the chair to another user. This ensures greater longevity of its usage.
In addition, all cushions can be repositioned to suit a user’s individual seating preferences and fibres added or removed from fibre filled cushions to adjust firmness. Covers can also be removed for cleaning or replacement. See Back Cushion Section for details on the individual cushions.
Pressure Management Seat Cushions
The Multi C-air comes with a choice of nine interchangeable seat cushions each with different pressure management features. You can purchase one or more cushions to support the different needs of individuals who may use this chair.
Cushions and covers are removable for cleaning or replacement. With all these seat cushions we recommend a fabric with four way stretch properties to aid reduction of shear and friction. See Seat Cushion Section for details on the individual cushions.
The Multi C-air benefits from a single, full chaise cover. This chaise reduces the risk of pressure areas developing due to pinch points and shear and friction when the chair reclines. Designed with a memory foam insert the chaise offers deep comfort.
The chaise cover and memory foam can be removed for cleaning and replacement.
The Multi C-air comes with heavy duty glides built-in as standard. You can upgrade to four heavy duty lockable castors, the front set being lockable and swivel. The back set are none-swivel.
Please note that the castors will increase the seat height measurements shown in Sizes Section by 1” (25.4mm).
The following features can be purchased to enhance the functionality of the chair.
Seat Depth Adjustment
The Multi C-air comes with the option to alter the seat depth with a choice of two sets of detachable adjuster pads, 25.4mm (1") or 50.8mm (2").
The seat depth should be long enough to support the upper part of the legs whilst allowing the back to rest comfortably on the backrest. If the seat is too long the user is likely to slouch in the chair to get their feet on the floor, which puts extra pressure on their lower spine, if too short it will cause additional pressure on the thighs risking potential skin breakdown.
Seat Height Adjustment
For a taller person the seat height and leg rest length can be adjusted. This will ensure that the user’s feet can be placed flat on the floor and that they have the correct leg rest length to support the legs. The height adjusters add 50.8mm (2") to the seat height.
Full Length Arm Covers
To protect the arms you can purchase a pair of arm covers in matching fabric for these high wear areas.
There are five headrests to choose from, all of which come with a Velcro tab allowing them to fit over the top cushions. For further details on each of these options please refer to the Headrest Section.
Heavy Duty Lockable Castors
There is the option to upgrade to four heavy duty lockable castors, the front set being lockable and swivel. The back set are none-swivel.
Please note that the castors will increase the seat height measurements shown in Sizes Section by 1” (25.4mm).
Carer Handset Loop*
This is fitted to the back of the chair for easy carer access.
Loop or Magnet for Handset*
Hidden under the fabric on the side of the arm rest it connects to the magnet in the handset.
This can be fitted onto either side of the chair.
Arm Rest Padding*
The arm rest tops can be upgraded to either Memory foam or Coolform gel for additional comfort.
For further details on the options below please refer to Safety Options Section.
* Please note that some of these additional features will need to be fitted at the point of manufacture.

For standard seating, our softest foam cushion with high quality Reflex foam filler for gentle comfort.
For those who have good posture and mobility but are seated for greater than one hour at a time and require pressure relief and supported comfort. This cushion has a high-density foam base which offers a supportive and firm seat base with a top layer of memory foam to allow immersion into the cushion, giving stability and a large surface area to reduce pressure levels.
The profile version of the Viscoform cushion provides a pommel, which can support those with weak trunk or lower limb muscles who are prone to sliding down and forward in their chair or for those with lower limbspasticity to help maintain hips in the abducted position to create a good seating position.
For those sitting for long periods with specific comfort issues such as a high risk of pressure sores. This cushion uses the latest medical grade silicone gel technology allowing pressure to be evenly distributed. The gel conforms to the shape of the body and equalises to body temperature. The gel cells allow air to flow easily and Coolform is totally odourless and hypoallergenic.
The profile version of the Coolform cushion provides a pommel, which can support those with weak trunk or lower limb muscles who are prone to sliding down and forward in their chair or for those with lower limbspasticity to help maintain hips in the abducted position to create a good seating position.
For those sitting for long periods with specific comfort issues such as a high risk of pressure sores. Gelacell has a unique cell matrix that distributes pressure across the contact area, as it contours and yields in response to weight redistribution. Gelacell absorbs body heat, reducing the risk of creating an environment that could increase pressure risks, the grid design also encourages air circulation. Gelacell is clinically tested and passes all dermatological tests for skin contact.
Maximum weight of user 127 kg (20 stone)
For those who have good posture and mobility but sit for long periods of time and require pressure relief and supported comfort. Recommended for people with limited muscle bulk or at risk of excessive weight loss. This cushion has a high-density foam which offers a supportive and firm seat base. The foam is topped with a fluid liquid gel in a soft silicone cover which provides a high level of pressure relief. The most important aspect to consider before purchasing any healthcare chair are the seating positions that are required to aid the conditions of the client and address any pressure and postural management needs.
The Multi C-air is available with either a Dual Tilt in Space (DTIS) or Single Tilt in Space (STIS) mechanism. Each mechanism we offer is available in different sizes. Please check the Sizes Section for all user weights and dimensions before selecting your chair. For demonstrations of the mechanisms described below please watch the relevant videos.
If you would like to find out about what mechanisms are available on other healthcare chairs from the Repose range please see the comparison chart below.
Dual and Single Tilt in Space
DTIS and STIS (Common features)
The Tilt in Space movement features on both these mechanisms. It allows the seat to back angle to remain the same whilst the whole seating system is tilted backwards. This ensures that the angle of the hips, knees and ankles remain unaffected and the weight on the Ischial Tuberosities is reduced by redistributing the weight through the back. This constant angle also prevents shear and friction during movement.
This feature can also help when transferring someone in a sling as it can support better pelvic positioning by using gravity to position the user in the back of the chair in the optimal position.
Both these mechanisms have a rise position. As the chair rises the seat tilts forward slightly, transferring the weight to the knees whilst taking away the pressure from your hips thus allowing you to walk away more easily from the chair. The seat angle can be changed to provide further support by choosing the VAL Technology.
Dual Tilt In Space
Single Tilt In Space
As well as the Tilt in Space and Rise functions, described above, the Dual Tilt in Space mechanism also features an independent backrest recline and independent leg rest movement:
- The independent recline allows the user to maintain flexibility over their body’s position, particularly the amount of hip flexion, enabling them to maximise comfort as well as managing health needs.
- The independent leg rest offers the user additional flexibility over positioning, allowing them to either use it in conjunction with the recline feature to create the optimal posture for their body shape.
An optional mechanism can be fitted under the chair that allows the rise angle to be set to support individuals to a standing position. Choose from three positions 10º, 20º or 30º. The higher the angle the lower the front of the chair becomes, providing more support when moving from a sitting to a standing position. A simple pin system allows you to set the angle required.
Styleline Handset with On/Off Button
On some handsets you can choose to have an on/off emergency stop button. Please ask your supplier for the option available on your chair model.
Accupak Rechargeable Battery System
The Accupak power pack enables you to use the chair away from a power supply. The battery provides an average of up to 100 adjustment cycles and will need recharging regularly to retain the quality of usage. It can be charged by simply plugging it in. The system sits out of sight under the chair and the charging outlet is built into the side of the chair.
Please note that the Accupak is not compatible with the Reading Lamp.
Full user instructions can be found in the user manual – please read these carefully before using the chair and Accupak. A copy of the manual can be found in the Brochures Section.
20 Cycle Back Up Unit
This back up system comes as stand-alone unit that can carry out up to 20 chair adjustments. It should only be used as an emergency back-up system.
Full user instructions can be found in your user manual – please read these carefully before using the chair and the 20 cycle back up. A copy of the manual can be found in the Brochures Section.
The enclosure skirt hides the mechanism when the chair is either in the full rise or recline positions. This has been designed to stop small pets entering the mechanism whilst in the recline or rise positions.
